BTCL to give free lines, plans optical fibre for villages

Dhaka, June 30 -  BTCL will provide land line connections free of charge for three months from Wednesday (July 1), and waive line rental charges in a bid to boost connectivity in rural areas, telecommunications minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu said Tuesday.

Optical fibre connections will also be installed at the upazila and village level to encourage cyber café and call centre businesses to be set up, creating employment opportunities too, Razu told a press conference at the ministry. Click for Details
 

Teesta waters above red level

Nilphamari June 30 - The Teesta River was flowing above the danger level at Dalia Point in Nilphamari on Tuesday as rain waters washed down from hills upstream, officials said.

Dhaka, July 1  – Former BNP minister Nazmul Huda and Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general Md Kamaruzzaman face contempt of court charges over last month's High Court ruling on the proclamation of independence.

Dhaka, July 1 - Sixty-six more 'politically motivated cases' will be dropped, the head of a scrutiny committee that recommended quashing of the cases said on Wednesday.
